A considerable amount of progress has been made in battling the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) epidemic in recent years. However, more work still needs to be done in certain patient populations.

Megan McLemore, JD, LLM, from Human Rights Watch, discussed some of these at risk populations during the annual United States Conference on AIDS (2016 USCA) in Hollywood, Florida. McLemore said one of the biggest areas of focus is in the southern parts of the country — where things like needle exchange and sex education still lag behind other parts of the country. McLemore said she is also working to address issues in the country's prison systems as well.
